Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Police then found many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.

An important political figure stated the attack made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
